17th JLRC Language Festival 2020 in Dhaka

Josephite Language & Reading Club is going to organize the 17th JLRC Language Festival 2020 in Dhaka.

1. English Olympiad: (Categories: I, J, S, C)
JLRC once again brings you its refined classic event, the ‘English Olympiad’. The pinnacle of language-based events, this year’s English Olympiad will be the ultimate showcase to test your expertise in vocabulary, syntax, grammar and a sprinkle of literature. 30 minutes, 30 questions, no negative marking, the tied score will be evaluated by the difficulty level of correctly answered questions.

2. Spelling: (Categories: I, J, S, C)
Another classic event, spelling will be available for all categories and will consist of two rounds, a written preliminary round and a stage round. This year’s stage round will have a special new twist for our senior categories, so stay tuned!

3. Turn the Coat: (Category: C)
Take your thoughts to the floor. In this 3-minutes instant speaking competition, provide your views on a rational, unbiased topic. Participants have to talk in favour of the topic in the first half of the speech and change his side in the second half. Be it a topic on personal principles or controversial actions, a logical, even and fair-sided speech with a good expression is the desired one.

4. Extempore: (Categories: J, S)
Contestants will have to speak about a topic provided impromptu for 3 minutes. Both eloquence, body language and the matter will be considered during evaluation. Throw your public speaking fear out of the window because we’re here to learn, get rid of our fears and make eloquence an asset.

5. Book Based Quiz: (Categories: I, J, S, C)
Are you tired of memorizing your curricular subjects already (*cough* BGS *cough*)? Do you want to read a new book, only to absorb the best lessons out of it? Here we are, trying to bring a new change to the ongoing trend of Book Based Quizzes.

6. Poetry (Categories: S, C)
Are you An Aspiring poet? Do you Write Poetry That means something Instead of Just using Line Breaks? Well then, this one’s for you. JLRC’s poetry bowl is open for participants of Secondary and College categories. Submit your original poems on the given date (will be announced) for their adjudicators to judge.

7. Catch 22 (Categories: J, S, C)
“Her hazel eyes shone like pools of wild honey in the afternoon sun, her wide, childbearing hips swinging from side to as she walked straight into my heart like a graceful swan.” (Except swans glide and don’t walk and she could definitely walk.
