The Asian University for Women (AUW) is seeking an enterprising and committed faculty member to join as a Drama and Performance Instructor beginning in 2019.

Located in Chittagong, Bangladesh, AUW is a liberal arts institution and home to international faculty and over 800 students from 16 Asian and Middle Eastern countries. The university is dedicated to teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting with a strong commitment to research, scholarly engagement, and effecting positive social change. Further information about AUW is available below and at www.auw.edu.bd.

Through the AUW Global Fellowship in the Humanities, AUW seeks to foster scholarly partnerships between Asian institutions of higher education and their American counterparts. Towards this end, this fellowship will enable the Instructor to focus on research, teaching and professional development by supplying all room and board, local transport, as well as a $1500 USD monthly supplement. Research and travel grants ensure that the Instructor can make the most of a global campus located on the Bay of Bengal, with easy travel access to several Asian nations.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to introduce AUW students to drama, theater, and performance. The Instructor must be able to provide classes in both theory and the history of drama, in addition to performance, which will constitute the central part of their courses.

The Instructor will teach in AUW’s rigorous Undergraduate Core Program. As a key component of AUW’s liberal arts and sciences education model, the core program is designed to offer undergraduate students a breadth of knowledge across disciplines, and exposure to diverse modes of thinking across seven subject areas: social analysis, ethical reasoning, literature, civilization studies and the arts, writing seminars, science, mathematics, and computer science. While the number of classes taught is flexible and can be decided based on interest of students and the research demands on teachers, AUW anticipates that five courses will be offered over the course of two semesters (e.g. a 2+3 teaching load with an average of 15 – 25 students per class.). Approximately 25% of AUW students have experienced displacement or life as a refugee; the Instructor may capture and convey their stories through drama, theater, and performing arts.
