Job Introduction:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. They do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. They also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. They focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response. In Bangladesh, they are a leading organisation in the humanitarian Communication with Communities sector, and are currently working alongside partners as part of the response to the Rohingya emergency in Cox’s Bazar.

Role Responsibility:

This role will lead BBC Media Action’s response to the Rohingya emergency in Bangladesh, taking responsibility for delivery of capacity strengthening, production and outreach activities as well as managing relationships with and sub-grants to international and local partners. The role will involve significant elements of coordination with government, NGO and UN actors working on the response, including representation of BBC Media Action within relevant clusters/sectors and multi-agency working groups. Maintaining relationships with donors and ensuring accurate and timely financial and narrative donor reporting will be a key part of the role, as will identifying further funding opportunities related to the humanitarian response and taking the lead on writing successful proposals.

The role reports to our Country Director in Bangladesh and will work alongside other members of BBC Media Action’s senior management team in Bangladesh (the Deputy Country Director, Head of Research and Executive Editor). The role will directly manage approximately ten national production, humanitarian, training and project management staff working on our response to the Rohingya emergency in Bangladesh.

Eligibilities

  • They need applicant’s considerable experience of developing and managing humanitarian communications projects as well as his/her skills managing complex budgets and knowledge of reporting requirements of donors.
  • Applicant’s will bring an understanding of the global humanitarian system and strong, practical experience of working with Communication with Communities and Community Engagement concepts and techniques.
  • Experience working alongside a diverse range of partner organisations will be key, as will your ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Ability to develop and pitch new business ideas will also be important in this role.
