SANEM presents Youthonomics- Episode 11.

Youthonomics, the monthly writing competition for the youth, organized by SANEM has become a platform for young intellectuals and a safe space for discussions and debates. Through Youthonomics, SANEM encourages young writers to voice their views and opinions on socio-economic issues. The winners of this competition are awarded prize money and certificates. SANEM believes that engaging the youth in an intellectual and academic discussion is essential for developing a more informed and rational society.

The topic of Youthonomics-11 is “Health Sector of Bangladesh”.

The repercussions of almost half a century of negligence have never been felt so profoundly. The COVID-19 pandemic has utterly overturned the public confidence in the health system. Both public and private healthcare services are in extremely vulnerable positions, putting the lives of both patients and health workers in danger. It is now being realized in all quarters, that there can be no alternative to the improvement of the health sector with special focus to ensuring accessibility, expansion of capacity, development of human capital, research, and technology.

The participants in Youthonomics 11 are encouraged to explore the socio-economic dimensions of the challenges and problems existing in the health sector of Bangladesh. Submissions can focus on specific aspects or take a holistic approach. Multi-disciplinary viewpoints and feasible policy recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Participants are encouraged to explore one or more of the following aspects in their submissions:

• Problems and challenges of policies related to the health sector
• Structural challenges of the public health sector
• Accessibility, affordability and accountability in the private health sector
• Institutional issues of the health sector
• Positive and negative externalities arising from health-related national policies

Eligibilities

University students enrolled in an Honor’s or Master’s level course is eligible to participate in this competition.

Application Process

Language: Students can send their write-ups in either Bangla or English.
• Word Limit: 1500-2000 words (Including the references).
• Structure: The submissions need to follow the following structure:
1. Title of the Essay
2. Name of the Writer
3. Introduction
4. The main body of Analysis: The analysis part can be divided into separate parts as per the preference of the writer. Tables, charts, pictures, etc. can be used. Economic theories can be used in the analysis.
5. Conclusion
Please note that, while the submission should be structured in the manner mentioned above, there is no need to use these points as subheadings.
• In the mail body, the name, mobile number, e-mail address, educational year, department, and university must be mentioned.
• The write up has to be sent in both MS Word and PDF format.
• Sources and references need to be cited properly in the write-up.
• Caution: Copying or plagiarizing will result in the disqualification of the participant from the contest. They will not be considered for future competitions of SANEM.
