The Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies offering intensive Czech language courses are organized by several public universities in the Czech Republic:

The courses are held during the summer months (July – September), their length ranges from 3 to 4 weeks depending on the course content determined by each Summer School.
The Summer Schools offer Czech language courses at various levels of proficiency, seminars on the Czech literature, culture, and history, free-time activities including theatrical, musical and dance performances, trips etc. Summer School of Slavonic Studies is designated for foreign students, professionals (teachers, translators, interpreters) and academics from the field of Czech/Slavonic studies, who have turned 18. The courses are also open to anyone who is interested in the Czech language, literature, history, and culture.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS, MŠMT in Czech) is responsible for public administration in education, for developing educational, youth and sports policies and international cooperation in these fields. Applications sent directly to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic or to the institution providing Summer School courses by individual applicants will not be processed (Don’t send your application either to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic nor to the Summer School!). Freeboard and lodging (incl. breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided by the scholarship along with coverage of course fees, incl. study materials, free access to cultural events and trips organized within a Summer School course.

Eligibilities
- Summer School of Slavonic Studies is designated for foreign students, professionals (teachers, translators, interpreters) and academics from the field of Czech/Slavonic studies.
- The courses are also open to anyone who is interested in the Czech language, literature, history, and culture.
- The applicant has to turn 18 no later than the first day of the Summer School’s beginning, otherwise, his/her application cannot be accepted.
- Scholarships can only be awarded to applicants who are nominated by the competent authorities in the aforementioned countries (the selection of applicants is usually performed by the respective foreign government agencies; in several cases by the Czech diplomatic missions).
Application Process
- The application should be accompanied with a Curriculum Vitae written in Czech or English. The competent receiving authority may require other documents (such as cover letter, certificate on language skills etc.).
- The number of scholarships and their distribution among individual Summer Schools is established by the MEYS.
- Filled in applications with all appendixes should be submitted to the respective receiving institution (it can be either a foreign government agency; in several cases one of the Czech diplomatic missions).
- The receiving institutions should send their nominations to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports by 31st March 2019. The receiving institution nominates i) regular nominees, and ii) substitutes (up to twice as many as regular nominees). Successful candidates will be contacted directly by the Summer School organizers.
