The Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic & Social Research at the University of Melbourne seeks a number of enthusiastic, motivated economists with research expertise in applied economic and social research.

There are several positions available in a number of areas of applied microeconomics. This includes strengthening the current areas of expertise such as labor economics, social policy, the economics of education, the economics of healthcare financing and organization, and the economics of households in the areas of poverty and financial well-being.  They are also seeking to expand our expertise in urban/public finance economics, behavioral economics, pro-social behavior, and charitable giving.

Eligibilities

  • Candidates should possess strong applied econometric skills (especially as applied to the analysis of longitudinal survey data, working with cross-section and panel administrative data, and/or working on field experiments) with evidence of or the potential to publish in leading general and field-specific economics journals.
  • Applicants should also have a genuine interest in engaging in policy-relevant research and in disseminating this research to a broad range of audiences.
  • The Research Fellow (Level B) positions would suit someone who is about to complete their PhD or has recently completed their PhD (within 3-5 years)
  • A Senior Research Fellow (Level C) position, applicants should have three to six years of experience in an academic environment, have a strong track record of publication in high quality journals, and show evidence of their ability to engage with policy makers and engage in public debate.
