The successful applicant will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Political Team in the British High Commission. You will work within a busy team that covers a broad range of issues ranging from Bangladesh’s internal politics, its relations with neighbours and international fora such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth, as well human rights issues and their response to the Rohingya crisis. You will need to maintain good working relationships with all the UK government departments represented within the British High Commission as well as with – critically – Government of Bangladesh (GoB) Ministries. You must be able to manage competing priorities often working to short deadlines.

  • Roles and responsibilities:
    • Prepare and log Notes Verbal and other official correspondence from the BHC to the GoB;
    • Manage travel and entertainment budgets and respond to ad-hoc requests for management information;
    • Assist organising visits by FCO ministers, other VIPs and senior officials ;
    • Organise logistical elements of Political Team and HC/DHC in-country visits;
    • Maintain Political Team’s contact database and use it to compile guest lists and arrange meetings etc;
    • Organise small-scale receptions and other events for Political Team. Support larger mission-wide events as required;
    • Lead on Political Team’s Learning and Development (L&D) programme, coordinating with Post’s L&D Champion and L&D Committee as appropriate;
    • Work with the BHC Information Management Officer as Political Team’s Information Management Support Officer;
    • Maintain leave calendars and carry out other ad hoc tasks as required by the team;
    • Requisition and receive goods and services on PRISM

  • For other than BHC candidates, budgeted compensation will be BDT 64,172 per month.

Eligibilities

  • A degree from a reputable institution in any discipline, though political sciences, international relations, development studies, or English will be particularly relevant;
  • Experience of working in a busy team and over a sustained period (minimum 5 years);
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Fluent English and Bengali
