UN ECLAC Economic Affairs Internship 2019 in Trinidad and Tobago

The internship in the Economic Development Unit (EDU) at the ECLAC Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean, located in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, will last 3 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis.

Duties may include:
Contributes to the development and preparation of the ECLAC Debt for Climate Adaptation Swap Initiative

  • Conducts a feasibility study into the possibility for ECLAC of seeking the Green Climate Fund (GCF) accreditation and devises a road map towards the accreditation. This task involves collecting relevant information, specifically detailed information on accreditation process and requirements, assesses its implications for ECLAC, and reports its results.
  • Follows up and implements some of the recommendations coming out of the second meeting of the Task Force to advance the initiative.
  • Prepares inputs for the third meeting of the Task Force, prepares summary reports and similar documents, and implements some of the recommendations.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. The internship is UNPAID. All costs of travel and accommodation, including living expenses, must be covered by the intern or any relevant sponsoring institution.

Eligibilities

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
  • For this internship, studies in the area of law is desirable.

Work Experience

  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
    Fluency in English is required.
