UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential. Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

The Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR) is the global level forum for coordination of child protection in humanitarian settings. The group brings together NGOs, UN agencies, academics and other partners under the shared objective of ensuring more predictable, accountable and effective child protection responses in emergencies, all working in line with the ‘Principles of Partnership’. In the humanitarian system, the CP AOR constitutes an ‘Area of Responsibility’ within the Global Protection Cluster. At the global level, UNICEF leads on the coordination of the CP AOR and is also the ‘provider of last resort’. All group members then lead on the implementation of CP AOR initiatives and drive the development of the work-plan. Many of the strong inter-agency relationships within the global CP AOR are also reflected in field-level child protection coordination groups.

The intern will support the coordination work of the Global CP AOR and will contribute to the successful implementation of activities and projects as outlined in the CP AOR’s work-plan. The intern will also help to strengthen interagency child protection responses by supporting interagency discussions at the global level, facilitating information and resource sharing between agencies, and supporting the team with field liaison on coordination support needs, as necessary.

The placement will last for 6 months, starting as soon as possible and will be based in Geneva, Switzerland. A combination of a few months of part-time and then full-time work is possible.
