Stanford Postdoctoral Fellow (dual) is the Initiative for Financial Decision-Making (IFDM) at the Stanford Graduate School of Business that invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships under the supervision of Professor Annamaria Lusardi, the Initiative’s faculty director.
The in-person fellowship begins as soon as possible and no later than July 1, 2026; runs for one year; and may be renewed, assuming performance at or above expectations; a two-year term is strongly preferred.

The fellowship centers on empirical research related to financial literacy and financial decision-making. IFDM builds on more than a decade of research by the Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC), founded by Professor Lusardi, which has developed widely used tools to measure financial literacy, advanced the field’s research agenda, and shaped financial education programs in the U.S. and globally. IFDM’s cutting-edge research program applies data, economic theory, and analytics to understand what drives household financial literacy and money management. This fellowship will include using that research to design teaching material and teach personal finance courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position will also lead efforts to support and coordinate a network of college and university personal finance instructors. IFDM joined forces with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy and the urgent need to close the gender gap in financial literacy. Additionally, IFDM Faculty Director Annamaria Lusardi presented her research to 27 European Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors at the EU Spring 2024 Meeting.

A PhD in Economics, Finance, or a related discipline is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching at a college or graduate-level setting.

The Stanford Postdoctoral Fellowship (dual) under the Initiative for Financial Decision-Making (IFDM) provides:
- A competitive annual salary in the range of $90,000 to $105,000.
- Support available for J1 visas, and fellows on OPT are encouraged to use OPT during the fellowship.
- Working directly under, Professor Annamaria Lusardi, a global leader in financial literacy research.
- Gaining teaching experience in personal finance courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Eligibilities
The eligibility requirements for the Stanford Postdoctoral Fellowship (dual) under the Initiative for Financial Decision-Making (IFDM):
- Must hold a PhD in Economics, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at college or graduate level.
- Interest and ability to conduct empirical research on financial literacy and household financial decision-making
