The successful candidates will kick off their careers in the news industry by spending 8 weeks in summer working with experts in newsrooms and creating a professional network. They will be able to learn from experts and connect with other GNI Fellows from across Europe. Depending on the needs of each newsroom, the fellows will research and write stories, contribute to open source data projects, design new digital products, create visuals and interactives, and look into data to accurately frame public debate. It is a fantastic experience where people can learn a different way of doing journalism, and how they can mix their skills in technology and journalism together.

The European Journalism Centre is delivering the GNI Fellowship in the EU and Google News Initiative is funding the program. The mission is to develop the next generation of European journalists, technology and design experts working to inform, engage, and inspire audiences.

Fellows will be assigned a mentor at their host organization. Each fellow will, however, have the opportunity to work with several staff members over the course of the program. Working with a different team is a great opportunity to discover how it all works behind the scenes, from the background research to data analysis and visualization.

Benefits

All the fellows will be remunerated for their work and to help cover expenses.
