The African Liberty Writing Fellowship program is open for applications for its 2023 – 2024 cohort. The African Liberty Writing Fellowship program is a year-long program designed to train young Africans with career interests in academia, media, public policy, or any other critical-and-analytical-writing-related career in opinion article writing. Accepted applicants will complete a five-week mandatory online course. The top candidates from the five-week training will be admitted as African Liberty Writing Fellows.

African Liberty has helped the fellows get featured in leading African and non-Africa media outlets.

African Liberty was founded in 2007 as a project of the Cato Institute and IMANI Africa, and thereafter the Atlas Network. It is a platform for advancing individual freedom, peace, and prosperity in Africa by promoting civil discussion and debate about social, legal, economic, and world issues affecting Africans.

African Liberty identifies and trains young promising African freedom advocates in professional critical writing and helps them kick-start careers in journalism and public policy by working with Africa-focused think tanks and partner media outlets.

African Liberty produces and promotes original reporting, interviews, and commentary to raise the level of substantive discussion both among Africans and between Africa and the rest of the world.

African Liberty carries out these responsibilities through a network of young writers, researchers, and commentators covering topics related to human rights, free expression, economic development, technology, criminal justice, entrepreneurship, and much more.

African Liberty is an editorially-independent platform powered by African Students For Liberty (ASFL).

African Liberty’s main focus is connecting Africans with the ideas that create prosperity through media advocacy, research, discussions, and debates. We educate a new generation of African thought leaders, and analysts in adopting viewpoints that address the rights and dignity of every individual regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, or Africanness. Through this process, we are building a network of young Africans equipped with the skillsets and passion necessary to usher Africa’s prosperity through the media.
