In an effort to keep the public informed on life-changing scientific breakthroughs, the Falling Walls Fellowship for Journalists was created.

The Fellows get the opportunity to attend all Falling Walls events on 8 and 9 November (Falling Walls Lab, Falling Walls Venture, Falling Walls Engage and the Falling Walls Conference)

Falling Walls is a unique international platform for leaders from the worlds of science, business, politics, the arts and society. It was initiated on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.

Inspired by this world-changing event on 9 November 1989, the question of every Falling Walls gathering is: Which walls will fall next? Falling Walls fosters discussion on research and innovation and promotes the latest scientific findings among a broad audience from all parts of society.

Falling Walls: Labs

Its aim is to promote exceptional ideas and to connect promising scientists and entrepreneurs from all fields on a global level. Participants get the opportunity to present their research work, business model, or initiative to peers, a high-calibre jury made up of experts from academia and business, and the general public – in 3 minutes each.

Falling Walls: Venture

This international platform showcases the most promising research based start-ups from all over the globe. Nominated by renowned universities and leading research institutions, 20 emerging companies pitch their breakthrough business models at a unique event that celebrates the vast entrepreneurial potential in science and fosters the community of scientist-entrepreneurs.

Falling Walls: Engage

Its goal is to showcase successful science engagement projects from a wide range of fields. From public science to pub science, from kindergarten education to VR experiences, and from citizen science to journalism, Falling Walls Engage connects those who tear down the walls between science and the public. The programme seeks to highlight the scientific community’s responsibility for the common good and spread scientific literacy, with a special focus on “hard-to-reach” target groups.

Falling Walls: Conference

In 15-minute-talks, researchers from all disciplines present their work in front of 700 international guests. During the breaks, the Falling Walls Forum becomes the place for high-level Q&A where the audience can ask questions and engage in discussions.

The Falling Walls Foundation, a charity, is generously supported by the German Ministry for Education and Research, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Helmholtz Association, the Berlin Senate and numerous other acclaimed academic institutions, foundations, companies, non-governmental organisations and prominent individuals.
