The Chili Padi Academy is an environmental education accelerator programme for senior high school students aged 16-19 from underserved* communities in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. 5 passionate youth participants from each country will convene in Singapore in a one-week accelerator program, visiting NGOs, startups and tech companies, while understanding environmental issues in the region. They will propose innovative solutions for their home communities that can sustain their livelihoods or advance environmental protection. Together with local mentors and US State Department Alumni from various organisations, participants will be guided in project implementation and techniques for collaboration. All participants will be mentored over a few months, and will then reconvene in Malaysia in September 2017 for an evaluation of their achievements.

*underserved: rural, low-income communities in Malaysia and Indonesia and neighborhood schools in Singapore

Benefits

This programme is fully funded. Airfares, transportation and accommodation in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will be covered for all participants during the one-week accelerator programme and Together-Gather respectively. However, participants will have to pay for their own meals.

Eligibilities

  1. Hold Indonesian, SIngapore, Malaysia citizenship
  2. Enrolled as senior high school student
  3. Fluent in English
  4. Have a passion for making environmental changes in the local community
