Lauren Child has been writing and illustrating children’s books for almost twenty years. Before that, she was a struggling wannabe artist, illustrator, and designer of things. She is a trustee of House of Illustration, founded by Sir Quentin Blake, and the UK’s only public gallery devoted solely to illustration and graphic art. In 2017 she became the 10th Waterstones Children’s Laureate. One of her main objectives of this role is to highlight the value and importance of illustration as an art form.
