LEARN Technical Training Award

The Technical Training award provides funds for technical staff from developing countries to receive training in New Zealand on equipment, tools or methods to improve the measurement and understanding of livestock greenhouse gas emissions.

This award is designed to support an extended visit of an active technician to increase technical knowledge.  The visit must be started within one year of the award is granted and must be completed by 30 June 2020.

Looking for fully-funded opportunities, install the Youth Opportunities Android or iOS App here.

The award does NOT support conference visits or short-term stays of less than 6 weeks duration.

The application is assessed by an independent panel of technical and scientific experts appointed by the Ministry for Primary Industries. The assessment panel considers:

  • The feasibility of the proposed training program.
  • Alignment with known scientific priorities and profile of the applicant’s home organization and the New Zealand host organization.
  • The extent to which the training will contribute to building capability in livestock greenhouse gas research in the home organization and country.

Taking into account the panel’s recommendations, the Ministry for Primary Industries then assesses the application’s ‘fit’ with the objectives of the GRA and other Ministry for Primary Industries objectives and priorities before making its funding decision.

The contract will be signed by the applicant, New Zealand host organization, the applicant’s home organization and the NZAGRC.

All funds will be administered through the New Zealand host organization. Once an award has been granted, it is the applicant’s responsibility to work with the New Zealand host organization to make arrangements for travel, accommodation, insurance, and any other logistical requirements. Additional support services, such as follow-up visits by New Zealand technicians to the applicant’s home country, may be arranged in addition to the award on a case-by-case basis at the Ministry for Primary Industries’ discretion.
