The Diana Award is the most prestigious accolade a young person can receive for their social action or humanitarian work. Since 1999 over 48,000 young people have been recognised with a Diana Award for making an outstanding difference in their communities across the globe. It is the longest running award for young people that is given to individuals and groups through a retrospective nomination process only. We believe this is special. Young people do not work towards the award, rather they demonstrate their suitability through their actions, without any expectation of reward.

The Award is open to young people aged 9 – 25 who have been engaged in at least 12 months of activities, who are selflessly transforming the lives of others, often in the face of adversity. Nominators must know the young person in a professional capacity and be able to demonstrate the nominee’s impact in five key areas:

  1. VISION: Demonstrates commitment and passion to the cause, evidenced through their service to that cause and through social action.
  2. SOCIAL IMPACT: Creates positive social change that is of benefit to the wider community.

  3. YOUTH LED: Demonstrates how the young person(s) has led, owned and shaped the activities they are nominating them for.
  4. SERVICE JOURNEY: Evidence of transformation throughout the nominee’s service journey, including attitude, skills gained and challenges overcome.
  5. INSPIRING OTHERS: Demonstrates that, through the nominee’s positive attitude and passionate approach to life, they are a role model to others.

Benefits

  • Young people who receive The Diana Award are presented with a personalized certificate and if located in the UK, will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in their area.
  • UK based Diana Award Holders are also presented with an invitation to Althorp House, Princess Diana’s childhood home. These invitations are gifted to Diana Award Holders in kind by Princess Diana’s, brother Earl Spencer, in recognition of their continuation of Diana’s legacy.
  • Organisations who make a successful nomination also gain the opportunity to raise their profile by being featured in The Diana Award Roll of Honour released to the media by The Diana Award in July every year.
  • Both UK based and international individual recipients of The Diana Award are also eligible for The Legacy Award, which takes place on a biannual basis.
