2019 Fourth IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest in France
  • Marseille

Participants are invited to share their stories on ecosystems and show the world their very own place in nature at the Fourth IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest in France.

IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, through its Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM) and the Thematic Group Red List of Ecosystems (RLE), is pleased to announce the Fourth IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest – My Place in Nature. The contest is open to all photographers and aspiring photographers worldwide. Capture the essence of the one place or event in nature that has left the participants with a long-lasting impression because of its beauty, power or uniqueness and share their images of any ecosystem, either free from human intervention or altered by it.

Photographs may be submitted having a clear relation to the theme My Place in Nature, and two modalities: Individual Photo and Series of Photos. All submitted photographs will be evaluated in a first round by a jury. The photographs that receive the highest scores by the jury will move on to a second round where they will be evaluated by the general public. Winning photographs will be those that obtain the best, combined scores based on the votes from both the public and the jury. Winners will be announced on IUCN Red List of Ecosystems social media and exhibited at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, to be held in 2020 in Marseille, France.

In 2016 the initiative was taken up again, inviting the public to participate in the Third IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest – Ecosystems at the Crossroads. In the representation of each of the world’s regions (Africa, America, Antarctica, Asia, Europe, and Oceania) more than 500 photos were received from all over the world. Of the 322 that fulfilled the technical and thematic requirements, 58 were selected as finalists by an outstanding international jury (including individual photos and series), between the two participation categories, Wild Beauty and Changing World. All the finalist photographs were exhibited in the IUCN World Conservation Congress’ Knowledge Center space, where they could be appreciated by the more than 10,000 people attending this important event.
