AFS Intercultural Programs is an international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world.

AFS develops active global citizens who take action to make a positive difference where they live, study, work and volunteer.

Their study abroad, education and volunteer programs empower people of all ages and backgrounds with essential intercultural knowledge, skills and understanding.

As a leading nonprofit international education organization, they believe global competence is fundamental to building just and peaceful societies.

 

So AFS develops active global citizens to take action and they also Globalize schools and institutions with tools and programs. They expand access to intercultural education with scholarships and outreach.

From the year 2018 to 2023, the government of Japan provides scholarship for Asian high school students who demonstrate strong potential of leadership to act as a bridge between Japan and their country. who has strong leadership to live and study in Japan for ten months. For the year 2020, 200 students will be provided this Japanese government scholarship, including 3 from Bangladesh.

Other Countries that are also invited: Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam

Purpose
Nourish global competence of Japanese high school students through intercultural experiences without going abroad
・Asian high school students to experience living Japanese education and culture
・Building high school students’ network among Asia
・Develop the leaders for our “future Asia”

Fees: Sponsored by the Government of Japan
     *Expenses not covered by the scholarship include:

  • Vaccinations, immunizations, and other disease-preventing medications (i.e. malaria)
  • Travel expenses to the regional consulate to obtain a visa
  • Additional spending money
  • Checked luggage fees

Eligibilities

  • Be between 15 and 18 years of age
  • Have good academic records, be in the top quartile in the class
  • Be a Japanese language learner and willing to learn the language and the culture of Japan
  • Demonstrate strong potential of leadership to act as a bridge between the sending country/region and Japan during and after the program
  • Not have participated in the Asia Kakehashi Program before
  • Priority will be given to students of families with low incomes
