FAO is looking for Communications and Outreach Adviser 2021 in Dhaka.

The Communications and Outreach Adviser is an S8 position and will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme)/Officer in Charge of the MUCH project. He or she will work in collaboration with the MUCH Technical Assistance Team (TAT), government counterparts, especially the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU) and the policy/planning wings of core ministries (Food, Agriculture, Fisheries/Livestock, Women/Children Affairs, and Health/Family Welfare), as well as development partners, including donors, civil society organisations and the private sector. The Communications and Outreach Advisor will work closely with the Communications Specialist who oversees communications at the Country level and across all projects in Bangladesh.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Devise and deliver a wide range of high quality and creative communications materials relating to MUCH and other projects, working closely to support the Communications Specialist.
  • Develop and implement a MUCH communications plan.
  • Devise and deliver communications materials that report on and showcase project activity and achievements.
  • Deliver food security and nutrition outreach activities that are suited to the national context, helping to raise the visibility of nutritional issues with key audiences.
  • Research and produce communications materials (in both high-quality English and Bangla) including technical policy briefs, news releases, human interest stories, newsletter content, brochures, opinion articles, talking points, donor reports, and social media, for MUCH and other projects as required.
  • Develop and articulate key messages for external communication and advocacy purposes.
  • Research and write human-interest success stories.
  • Be willing to participate in field trips if necessary.
  • Edit texts of a technical nature in order to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with FAO editorial standards (set out in the following: FAO house style; FAO terminology portal, FAO country names portal; and Publishing at FAO – Strategy and guidance, etc.).
  • Develop and coordinate the production of engaging and informative multimedia products (video and radio) in line with guidelines from the Office of Corporate Communication (OCC).
  • Work with graphic designers to devise high-quality publications, visual presentations, pamphlets, infographics, and other publication materials.
  • Commission professional photography.
  • Support and promote World Food Day communications and other key dates and events by building on previous efforts to coordinate pro-bono advertising (outdoor/TV/digital/radio) and identifying influencers that are willing to promote WFD/MUCH messaging, in collaboration with the Office of Communications.
  • Leverage the communication potential of FAO campaigns including International Days, Years and UN Decades to highlight related MUCH content such as human-interest success stories, in collaboration with the Office of Communications.
  • Cultivate relations with the media, organise and facilitate media coverage for events, guide media engagement for technical experts.
  • Provide support to monitor and evaluate the impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences.
  • Set up, organize, and maintain an archive of images and video content.
  • Organize and archive key project documents.
  • Prepare, edit, and submit key project documents for publishing approval.
  • Represent FAO at groups such as the country UN Communications Group.
  • Organise procurement of communications products.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Eligibilities

Minimum Requirements

  • Advance degree in communication or related fields such as external relations, social sciences;
  • Five years of working experience related to communication, outreach and related fields.
  • Good spoken and written English.
  • National of Bangladesh.
