UN Women is looking for Communications Intern 2021 in Cox’s Bazar.

Description of Responsibilities:

  • The intern will assist the Cox’s Bazar sub-office team with its responsibilities relating to the communications support of humanitarian assistance.

Specifically, The Intern Will

  • Support the communications section in implementation of communications activities (e.g. preparation of training, workshops or advocacy actions; drafting a press release and other documents);
  • Draft and share meeting minutes from staff meetings, Gender in Humanitarian Action Working group and other humanitarian coordination mechanisms meetings and any other meetings participated, as required
  • Support Communication section in drafting web articles on project activities, concept notes and any other related documents.
  • Provide support to advocacy efforts and campaigns by organizing roundtable discussions, press conferences, and other public events and providing inputs to briefing materials and press releases;
  • Support organizing visits of the journalists to the camps and host community in UN Women’s project locations
  • Support organizing discussions on women’s portrayal in media, with media representatives, women’s human rights organizations, relevant Government, and UN
  • Assist UN Women staff in various research and fundraising tasks relating to humanitarian assistance, women’s empowerment, and the women, peace and security agenda;
  • Field visit, story collection, still photography of programme activity and support for social media post.
  • Support UN Women Office in communication with partners and media-related work;
  • Maintain library/ database of reference materials, photos, and digital assets;
  • Support gender-responsive journalism-related activities;
  • Support the team’s knowledge management efforts;
  • Support UN Women communications section in various admin tasks as required by the Head of Sub-Office.

Remuneration

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.

Education

Required Skills and Experience

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Business Administration, Economics, Social Science or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
