Communication Intern – bright, motivated intern for a two-month period starting May 2019 to generate a holistic report on all the youth engagement initiatives within BCO, with the aim of identifying a strategy for approaching youth engagement on the basis of successful approaches taken throughout the organization by the different programmatic areas.

Purpose Of The Internship

The participation of children and youth in schools, community action, organizations, media, programmes, policy advocacy and governance has gained growing support over the past few decades. This interest in youth’s active involvement is being stimulated by an increased understanding of children’s development, abilities and contributions, and a greater recognition of children’s citizenship and their rights to expression, decision making, information and association.

Keeping this in mind, UNICEF Bangladesh seeks a bright, motivated intern for a two-month period starting May 2019 to generate a holistic report on all the youth engagement initiatives within BCO, with the aim of identifying a strategy for approaching youth engagement on the basis of successful approaches taken throughout the organization by the different programmatic areas. The intern will also be expected to identify and explicate the activities within the organization that resonate strongly with the agenda of the Generation Unlimited global partnership and bring under a similar model for the BCO.

Expenses:

Please note that Internships at UNICEF are unpaid. However, a lump-sum of 1000USD will be paid for international applicants towards covering travel and visa expenses (if applicable). A stipend of 500USD per month will be offered as a contribution towards living expenses.

Local travel (outside Dhaka) and airport transfers (where applicable) for assignments will be covered in accordance with UNICEF’s rules and tariffs. Flight costs will be covered at economy class rate as per UNICEF policies. Any air tickets for travel will be authorized by and paid for by UNICEF directly, and will be for the attendance of meetings and workshops.

Employment:

There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
Key function, accountabilities and related duties/tasks
Working directly under the supervision of the Communication Specialist, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Examine key youth engagement initiatives of BCO’s different program sections, and in regards to youth participation, advocacy, skills development, etc., particularly in light of the global Generation Unlimited partnership that aims to ensure that every young person is in education, learning, training or employment by 2030.
  • Analyze youth engagement strategy of BCO.
  • Using tasks 1, 2 and 3, develop a report for UNICEF BCO which includes:
    1.Key summary of each youth engagement activity supported;
    2.A youth engagement strategy/model;
    3.Case studies on adolescents and young people involved with key initiatives;
    4.Evidence on how these activities have been used to achieve better results for children.

This internship will also provide the successful candidate an exposure to the working environment of a multilateral organization and a better understanding of UNICEF’s mandate to safeguard the rights of every child, everywhere.

Eligibilities

  • Intern is required to hold valid health/accident insurance. UNICEF accepts no responsibilities for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship whether on or off UNICEF premises.
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years. Graduate or PhD candidates preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Effective communication skills, written English skills and ability to write clearly, succinctly and for varying audiences, Additional consideration will be given to any past professional experience.
