Of Nation and Narration: 6th DEH Inter-University Student Conference and Cultural Competition 2020.

(Dedicated to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman)

It is in this context that they invite students to look into languages and literature to explore themes related to nations.

Papers are invited on, but not limited to, the following themes:
Language, Literature and the Nation
Nationalist Imagination and its Antinomies
Nations and Exiles
Class, Gender, Race and the Nation
Nation and biopolitics
Affects, Nations, Narrations
Nation and Geographical Thought Nation and the World
Cosmopolitanism
Nation, Capital, Economic Relations
Ecology and the Nation
Diaspora, Displacement and the Nation
Patriotism and its Ambivalences

Judging Criteria: content, organization, presentations skills, creativity and use of visual aids

Papers will be judged by an independent panel of judges, and the best three papers will receive a monetary prize and a certificate. All presenters will receive certificates of participation.

Department heads will select a maximum of two students to represent their institutions.

All papers will be checked for plagiarism.
Word limit: 3000 words;
Presentation time: 10 minutes;
Q&A: 5 mins.

CULTURAL COMPETITION
Teams are invited to present their interpretations of the idea of nation and narration. The representations may include but are not limited to: skits, readings, adaptations, visual interpretations, documentaries. Because of the pandemic, the event has been shifted to an online platform. Teams are invited to record their acts/performances using the video conferencing features available in either Google Meet or Zoom

The use of any post-production software to enhance video quality will be grounds for disqualification.

CONDITIONS:
Number of members: maximum 10 inclusive of supporting members (only 10 certificates will be provided by the organizers)
Time limit: 15 minutes
Recording platforms: Google Meet / Zoom
Recording tools: Mobile phone camera / Webcam
Video formats: MP4 / MOV / AVI
All videos must be submitted through email before the deadline.

Judging Criteria: content, quality, creativity, process (including time management), and impact.

The Cultural Competition will be judged by an independent panel of judges, and the best two teams will be awarded a monetary prize and certificates.

There will also be a Popular Choice Award – without any monetary prize – based on votes cast by audience members on designated social media pages (links for the voting pages will be shared with each team ahead of the competition).

Each participant will receive a certificate of participation.

Participating teams will be responsible for uploading their video materials in their given schedule. The organizers cannot be held responsible for any technological glitches. Organizers can request teams to resubmit if the video formats have compatibility issues.
