Urban Tomorrow presents Quarantine Games 2020

Urban Tomorrow wants to contribute as well by organising an online competition for artists and writers to display their creativity while staying within the confines of their homes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly created the need to be quarantined in our homes for minimizing the risk of widespread exposure of the contagious virus. During these challenging times, we have seen many members of the community rise up to showcase their own creative ways of spending time isolation.

The ‘Quarantine Games’ will be divided into four categories:

1. Writing
Entries on any of the three topics will be accepted, in any form of writing, till 4th April 2020. One participant may write on two different topics, but they cannot submit more than two pieces of writings. There is no word limit, so have fun! These are the following topics, which mostly draw on the ongoing climate crisis and the pandemic itself.
a) There is no Planet B
b) A Survival Guide to the Pandemic
c) ‘We are all now connected by the Internet’ – Stephen Hawking. What does the future hold for humankind?

2. Art: Paintings, Sketches and Colors
The themes for the art competition will be:
a) Traditions
b) The Dystopian Present
You can submit artworks in any media, and each participant can only submit a maximum of THREE artworks. Please send clear photographs of the artworks.

3. Photography
All kinds of nature or environment-related photographs will be accepted. Each participant may submit a maximum of FIVE photographs. Files should be in JPG Format.

4. Comic Strips
The topics for this segment will be:
a) ‘Isolation’, which is fitting given our current situations in quarantine
b) ‘Oops, looks like it’s the end of the world!’
Entries on either of the topics will be accepted. There is no limit to the number of panels, so do not worry about any restraints to your creativity.

Benefits

  • There will be five winners from each category, who will receive certificates of achievement;
  • All other participants will receive a certificate of participation;
  • Some selected writings, photographs, artworks and comics may be featured on Urban Tomorrow’s Facebook page and blog (with the permission of the artist/writer).
