Scholastica International Mathematics Summit 2020 in Dhaka

Scholastica Mathematics Club is going to organize the Scholastica International Mathematics Summit 2020.

COMPETITIONS

1. Math Olympiad:
Levels: Primary, Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary

Mathematics Olympiad (BDMO standard)

• Every participant will write this test individually
• The participants are expected to solve 8-10 mathematical problems.
• The individual contestants will compete for the first, second and third position for each level.
• Duration: 1 hour

2. Minus 16 (Knockout Round of 16 tournaments):
Levels: Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary

• The top 16 participants of each level from the Math Olympiad (refer to competition 1) will go against each other in a head to head manner.
• 8 questions per match A problem is displayed on a screen, and the two contestants race to finish the problem (with pencil and paper).
• Forty-five seconds are allotted per problem.
• The first person to buzz in with the correct answer gains a point.
• Incorrect answer gains no point and participant not allowed to buzz in again for the same question
• competition progresses through the round of 16 ->quarterfinals -> semi-finals->grand final

3. School VS School Showdown (School Team VS School team):
Levels: Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary

• Only invited schools can participate in this competition
• Rounds: 3
• 1st round: written test
• 10-12 teams will qualify for the second round from each level
• Teams will send a single team member to attempt any one of the four categories of questions.
The categories are:
1) Algebra
2) Combinatorics
3) Geometry
4) Number Theory.

• The moderator will ask 8-10 questions for each of the categories and the school team’s representative (one from each of the team) will answer them by pressing the buzzer.
• Points will be added for each correct answer
• Incorrect answer gains no point, team representative not allowed to buzz in again
• One school can form only a single team for each level in this contest.

4. A Fraction Ahead (Sprint round):

Levels: Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary

• Test to be taken on computers/smartphones
• The school will provide computers for the Junior level
• 30 problems
• 40 minutes
• Each answer worth one point
• Problems increase in difficulty
• Real-time points table on display to add to the excitement
• Secondary and Higher secondary participants must bring their own smartphones

5. Relay round:

Levels: Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary
• Rounds: 2
• Time for each round: 10 minutes
• Team of 4 members
• One question with 4 parts
• Each member gets to solve only one part of the question
• 1st sub-part is solved by the first member and the answer is passed to the second member, answer to 2nd sub-part is passed to the third member and this continues
• The final answer which the fourth participant arrives at will be considered for points
• No institutional bounding

6. Treasure Hunt:

Levels: Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary

• Rounds:2
• Team of 4 members
• First round: short math challenge to be solved on paper as a team in 15 mins
10-12 teams qualify for a final round
• Final round:1 hour
• Qualified teams roam throughout the school campus to find the clues leading to the treasure
• No institutional bounding

7. So You Think You Can Add? (Mental Math Contest):
Levels: Primary, Junior, Secondary, Higher Secondary

• Individual contest
• Problems solved by only mental calculations
• No pencils allowed
• Answer to be written using pen only
• Any extra writing other than the answer will mean disqualification
