ActionAid Young Journalist Media Award 2019.
The objective of this award is to inspire journalists so that they get encouraged to contribute more to the achievement of youth-led social transformation.
● Award Catagory:
* Journalism on promoting youth leadership for social transformation;
* Journalism on promoting decent work and economic opportunities for young people;
* Journalism on promoting youth responsive accountable public services.
● Areas for report submission:
* Promoting Youth leadership (Youth participation and representation in decision-
making spaces);
* Youth led social cohesion;
* Youth responsive accountable public services (SRHR and Skill education);
* Economic opportunities and start-ups for young people;
* Budgetary allocation in harnessing young people’s potentials;
* Decent work provision for young people in the Informal sector;
* Skill development initiatives for young people.
● Media Category:
* Television, Print and Online media (English and Bangla).
● Timeline:
* Reports published from 1st January 2018 to 25th August 2019 are eligible for submission.
● Jury Panel:
* An independent jury panel will go through the reports and select the winners.
● Background:
One third of the population is young, belonging to 18-35 years of age in Bangladesh. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 also requires engagement of the youth as more than one third of SDG targets have reference to young people. ActionAid Bangladesh acknowledges the vital role of mass media for the mobilization of young people’s agendas and sensitize people both from grassroot as well as decision making level to contribute their quota in the achievement of these agendas.
To inspire and recognise young journalists’ contribution to the young people’s agendas, AAB is calling passionate young journalists to send best reports reflecting their work for ‘ActionAid Young Journalist Media Award 2019’.

Eligibilities
Required Documents for Application:
o Cover letter (maximum 1 page)
o Letter of endorsement on Copyright owenership of the reports from the
editor/chief reporter/assignment editor from applicant’s workplace
o Applicant’s 1 copy passport size photo
o Resume
Special Conditions:
o In case of print media reports (both national and local), the original copy must be sent in the newspaper. In addition to hardcopy as an attachment, softcopy must be submitted via email.
o In the case of television, a short and complete script must be submitted via email with the YouTube link of the reports telecasted on the television.
o In the case of online media, the report must be published on the website and the relevant report should be submitted with the URL link.
o The name and date of the newspaper/television/online portal and the reporter must be visible.
o Only Bangladeshi journalists and media personalities can apply for this award.
o Applicants must submit their best 2 reports (mainstream).
o One applicant can apply in more than one catagory.
o Application with incomplete/inaccurate information will be disqualified.
