Equity and Merit Scholarships for international master’s students aim to assist talented but economically disadvantaged students.
The scholarships are jointly funded by the University and its alumni. The University waives the tuition fee in full and the generosity of alumni covers students’ living costs and flights to the UK.

Scholarships are available for students to undertake postgraduate master’s degrees that are not available in their home country and which are intended to fill a particular skills gap. Awards are also available for study by distance learning.
To date, 85 students have received support to undertake master’s degrees (full-time or online) and more than 250 students have received awards to study in their home country on a University-validated programme.

Scholarships are currently available for students of Bangladesh, Tanzania and Uganda.

Cost:

The scholarships cover full tuition fees, return international air fares and living expenses.

Eligibility:

The master’s scholarships are aimed at academically excellent, young professionals with at least two years’ post-graduation work experience. Please select your country and programme type for further information and details of how to apply:

Bangladesh:

  • be a resident citizen of Bangladesh and have not previously studied abroad;
  • have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall score of 70% for science and engineering courses. Applicants who are interested in education and social sciences courses must have a master’s degree with a minimum overall score of 55%.
  • have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience;
  • be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate his/her potential to make a positive impact on the future of Bangladesh;
  • have a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5. However, please be aware that some courses require a score of 7.0.

Tanzania:

  • be a resident citizen of Tanzania and have not previously studied abroad;
  • hold a first or upper second class undergraduate degree;
  • have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience;
  • be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate his/her potential to make a positive impact on the future of Tanzania;
  • have achieved a grade C in English Language at Tanzania Certificate of Secondary Education level; or, have a minimum IELTS result of 6.5.

Uganda:

  • be a resident citizen of Uganda and have not previously studied abroad;
  • hold a first or upper second class undergraduate degree;
  • have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience;
  • be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate his/her potential to make a positive impact on the future of Uganda;
  • have achieved a grade 4 or above in English Language at Ugandan Certificate of Education level; or, have a minimum IELTS result of 6.5.
