The Washington Post offers 12-week paid internships for reporters on the Local, National, Foreign Financial, Sports, Features and Editorial desks, as well as internships for visual journalists, multiplatform and social media producers, copy editors and web designers.

Eligibility:

You must be a college junior, senior or graduate student enrolled in a degree program on November 7, 2014. You must have had at least one professional news media job or internship.

Is there an age requirement?

Applicants must be a college junior, senior or graduate student on the November 7, 2014, application postmark deadline. There is no age requirement.

Can a foreign citizen apply?

Foreign citizens can apply for internships. If chosen, they must provide the documentation needed to obtain the proper visa to work in the United States.

Are interns paid?

Yes. It is our policy to pay everyone who works for us, including interns. For summer 2014, the salary was $750 per week.

What do interns actually do?

Our interns write articles, edit copy, take photographs, design pages and produce graphics. We treat them as staff members during their 12 weeks of employment.

Your Application Packet:

You must sign and mail your application to The Washington Post to be considered for an internship.

HOW TO AVOID PROCESSING DELAYS 
Clip, do not staple any of the materials you submit 
Send all printed materials on 8½ x 11 paper 
Do not send notebooks, presentation covers, or other fancy packaging

Please include the following in your packet–using one large binder clip–in the following order.

  1. Application packet checklist
  2. Printed application form, completed and signed.
  3. Typed autobiographical essay of at least 500 words.
  4. Resume.
  5. Work samples.
  6. Two letters of recommendation written to The Selection Committee. These letters should be included as part of your application in separate, sealed envelopes.

When your application has been mailed, notify The Post that it is on its way.
