The Wall Street Journal Europe internship program is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue a career in journalism. This is a paid summer internship, which lasts for a 10-week period. The summer internships generally take place over June, July and August, though start dates can be flexible in certain circumstances.

Include a cover letter, resume and up to six samples of your work (written and/or multi-media) in your online application, which is due no later than November 14, 2014.

We are looking for interns to work in our bureaus across Europe, and in some cases there may be the opportunity of working beyond Europe’s boundaries, e.g., the Middle East. Our selection process is competitive and rigorous, and should be completed by the end of January. We will only contact finalists who pass initial screenings, which will focus heavily on reporting/writing/editing skills across print and online platforms.

Interns work closely with reporters and editors to deliver prompt, accurate reporting of news, features and multi-media material relevant to their beat. Interns are expected to generate their own story ideas appropriate for the section to which they are assigned, and follow the stories through to completion with supervision and guidance from an editor. They might also assist reporters and editors with story research and other assigned tasks.

Interns should be self-starters who understand the needs of the paper’s growing readership on various real-time, online and print platforms.

Dedication to high journalistic standards is vital. Candidates must be able to work independently and under deadline pressure. Fluency in English and in one or more additional European language is a must.
