University of Cambridge is inviting applications for graduate studentships 2015 intake. The Centre for Trophoblast Research aims to promote the study of placental biology, with special reference to the trophoblast.  Candidates are expected to select from the list of projects advertised, and they are welcome to discuss projects or other ideas with Principal Investigators within the Centre. Graduate students will receive instruction and guidance principally from their supervisor in a supportive and stimulating environment, but will also attend formal training courses in generic skills provided by the Graduate School. The Centre also organises regular seminars and journal clubs that students are required to attend. Graduate students are expected to contribute fully to other activities of the Centre and their host department.

Eligibility:

Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a first class honours degree in a relevant biological subject. They are accepting applications from candidates holding Masters Degrees. For overseas students the minimum undergraduate GPA for entrance into the University is 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

Fellowship:

While the studentships provide a consumables allowance, the Centre is not in a position to pay bench fees or access charges to core equipment or any additional charges to host departments. The Centre is also willing to consider hosting students for the PhD degree who have already secured independent funding.

Application:

All applicants need  to make initial informal enquiries of Principal Investigators of the Centre regarding their projects on offer. Once you have identified a potential supervisor and project you should make a formal application, by sending the following documents to the Centre Administrator at the address below to arrive by Wednesday 3rd December, 2014:

  • a curriculum vitae;
  • a half-page personal statement outlining your motivation for research at the Centre;
  • two confidential academic references in sealed envelopes; and
  • a transcript of your undergraduate degree (and Masters degree) results.

The Centre Administrator, Centre for Trophoblast Research, Physiology Building, Downing Street, Cambridge CB2 3EG, UK.
