Location: Harvard University, USA.
Date: February 13-16, 2015.

The HPAIR Harvard Conference brings together over 200 attendees from the world’s top universities and 100 speakers to discuss the most pressing issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

As countries around the world experience recovery from the global financial crisis, Asia’s economic growth appears set to continue gaining momentum. Yet GDP growth does not necessarily reflect the nature of the widening inequality in incomes, social development, and health, nor fluctuating political and diplomatic relations. According to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), “Economic growth is not an end in itself; addressing the multidimensional nature of inequalities and their impacts matters for inclusive growth.”

Therefore, HPAIR have chosen this year’s overall conference theme as Asia’s Blueprint for Growth: Building an Inclusive Future. Delegates will be able to choose one among seven of the panel topics available:

  • Corporate Leadership
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Finance and the World Economy
  • Health and Public Policy
  • Media
  • Security and Diplomacy
  • Technology

Eligibility:

Current college students and recent college graduates (within the past 5 years) may apply to HPAIR conferences.

Accommodation:

Every year, some Harvard students will volunteer to host HPAIR delegates in their dorms during the time of the conference, but due to the high demand for Harvard housing, they are unable to fulfil all requests.

The conference does not cover expenses for hotel stay or other accommodations. However, HPAIR will provide more information on hotel options within the area. Delegates should refer to the HPAIR Harvard Conference Brochure or email for accommodation suggestions.

Scholarships available?

Yes, scholarships are available for those who submit a financial aid application. These scholarships involve an additional multimedia video submission in addition to the regular application submissions, and they will waive the registration fee for selected delegates. However, there will be no travel scholarships, so delegates on financial aid will still have to pay for their flights to Harvard, as well as personal expenses during their stay. Please refer to the application page to find out more about the scholarship application process.

Visa:

Australian students can apply for a visa to the US online and is extremely straight forward compared to acquiring a visa to countries in Asia such as China!

Registration fees:

  • Early registration fee: $280.
  • Regular registration fee: $300.

We at Asia Options feel that the conference cost is reasonable considering the prestigious venue and value of the conference but applicants should be wary that costs will add up once you pay for accommodation, airfares, spending money etc.
